Ghost town Hollow

Ghost town hollow is a abandon mining camp on the northern slope of Pikes Peak. The easiest way to get to it is to drive a little over half way up the Pikes Peak Highway and look for the turnoff and parking space near the tree line. Ghost town Hallow also shares a segment of the Elks park trail. You can park in a gravel lot overlooking the highway. Its a fairly short trail only a couple of miles and is a nice afternoon hike.

A major part of the trail runs along the north face just above the tree line and is easy walking with great views. You can see the trail in the picture below.

Eventually you work your way through the Devils Playground

Then down into the forest for a stretch

A little further along the trail you come to the remains of the old steam engine that powered the drilling rigs that the miners used to jack hammer the tunnel into the granite of Pikes Peak

The old abandon mine now has water running out of it continuously and forms a creek that meanders its way down the hillside. The sign says keep out dangerous gases inside. Not wanting to die or worse yet get wet feet we didn't go in.

We did however have lunch by the creek that flowed out of the mineshaft, while enjoying the sunshine .
